The wonders of spring

Things I love about spring...

Once the first buds of hamamelis light up the garden I start to get that feeling of rebirth and renewal that comes with spring.  It may still be cold but there is warmth ahead.  The snowdrops push through and begin to bloom and daffodils pop up in some unexpected places...

A few weeks later ferns begin to unfurl their tightly curled leaves, especially in sheltered places, the dicentra (bleeding heart) shows its intricate flowers, the rock plants begin to bloom and primulas, primroses and tulips brighten up the garden.

I feel more relaxed when the hour goes forward and the day seems to last longer.  No more dark journeys home after work.  It is light enough to do some jobs in the garden before evening sets in, or simply wander around and see what is beginning to bud.

Spring scents, colours and the promise of warmer weather to come all add up to a feeling of well-being. I love spring!
