Impromptu music and hot turkey sandwiches
This new year's day was a bit cold and damp. Not particularly inspiring for a long walk so the decision was made to drive to Gawsworth, park at the Harrington Arms pub and then have a short stroll around the village before returning to the pub for a spot of lunch and some impromptu music.

No musicians are booked to play on New Year's day, they just turn up. We got there at about 12:30pm and there were four musicians already playing traditional tunes. More arrived while we enjoyed our drinks followed by delicious sandwiches (hot turkey and gravy!) and homemade chips. By the time we left at around 3pm there were another four musicians plus some unusual instruments joining in the melodies.

Nothing is promised, nothing is booked in advance but for the past few years this is what happens, spontaneously, at this old farmhouse pub in the small village of Gawsworth just south of Macclesfield in Cheshire.
Long may it last..
Happy New Year!
